Obama to Push Jobs Plan in Boehner’s Home State of Ohio

On Tuesday September 13th, 2011, President Barack Obama will continue to push his $447 billion job plan. He will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to draw attention to a proposed $30 billion investment intended to be used for modernizing schools and to hire and retain teachers. Columbus, Ohio is the home state of House Speaker John Boehner. He also chose to visit the home district of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Richmond, Virginia. In Columbus President Obama is sponsoring the Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School in a multimillion-dollar project for modernization. President Obama is making stops at there particular places in order to speak to these people specifically. Across the nation the jobs project will be helping renovate up to 35,000 schools. The Secretary of Education Arne Duncan explains that the money will be given to the local governments, and form there they will decide which schools get aided. Duncan also explains that the poorest schools have “crumbling ceilings and the buildings lack basic wiring for computer labs”. In order to win public support, President Obama launched a concentrated public relations campaign, along with his an American Jobs Act. To help it get passed by Congress, President Obama has students helping him promote his Plan because they are the ones that are going to be affected by the decision.

While promoting his Jobs Plan, President Barack Obama strategizes according to the 2012 Presidential election. He is traveling to Ohio intentionally because it is the home state of House Speaker John Boehner. Boehner is Obama’s biggest opponent because he is the leader of The House, and unlike him a Republican. He targets talking to citizens of Ohio because they will possibly turn to Boehner with the ideals of change that President Obama is presenting them with. This is a perfect example of President Obama using a specific Hardball strategy that all politics is local, in order to get his agenda across and gain public supporters. Everything that President Obama does from here until the election in 2012 will be focused on how his actions will benefit him. He must gain supporters now and keep them in the long run in order for his “Jobs Plan” to follow through as well as keeping in mind his re-election plans. President Obama did use the same strategy when he went to Richmond Virginia, the home state of the House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor.
