President Obama Finishes off 9/11 Anniversary at Kennedy Center Concert

Although 9/11 happened a decade ago, coming together to remember those who passed away was important to the nation. President Barack Obama and about 2000 attendees went to the Kennedy Center for the Performing on Sunday night of September 11th for a concert dedicated to the 10th anniversary of 9/11. At the event, evening entertainment was provided—singers and choirs. There was different atmosphere of feelings at different times. Sometimes the crowd was upbeat and other times they were remembering the tragedy. The people watched videos of rescuers from the tragedy and ended it with a performance of Amazing Grace. Afterwards, President Obama made his speech and said that so much has changed in the nation ever since the attack but the character of the nation has not changed. Obama finished off his speech by saying the people and the nation took a painful blow and came out stronger. The people that came out to this felt that 9/11 was a historic event and that it should always be remembered. At the end, many that attended agreed it had done a good job on honoring and remembering a difficult time and showing people that they can move forward. 9/11 was a tragic, horrific time for the country and to still remember those who innocently had their lives taken away, showed the strong unity of America.

President Obama attended the memorial ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial in New York and other cities which showed President Obama’s concern and care for such a tragic event in American history. Even though it was expected of him to show up at a memorial for 9/11, it still proved to the nation that he cared as much as the people who lost loved ones and those who cared for the ones innocently killed. Also, at the memorial, President Obama recited his speech which was organized in a way that was not expected. In the beginning of his speech, he mentioned a quote from the Bible which some thought was not a good way to start off a speech because not everyone believes in the same belief. The president chose a quote that talked about preserving through the hard times and coming back stronger which was the main theme of his speech. By starting it off that way, he has attracted the audience and has given the audience a feel of what to expect from the speech—a speech about recovering through hard times. Afterwards, President Obama said, “our character as a nation has not changed, our faith in God and each other—that has not changed…It will be said of us that we kept that faith; that we took a painful blow and emerged stronger.” President Obama told the people that terrorism has not changed the country and that nothing will and even if the nation was hurt, everyone recovers for the better. By saying this, President Obama has reassured the citizens that terrorism will never win and that the nation cannot be broken. The past 10 years, America has proved that they are able to protect their citizens and the way they live. By President Obama promising the citizens of the protection of their life and rights, he has reassured that he will continue to make sure of that—this is important to gaining support. President Obama’s interest in 9/11, his emphasis on the importance of recovering for the better, and the protection of citizen’s life gave him a good image and supporters.
